“Each one of our communities has such a wealth of promise, and a wealth of knowledge, and opportunity, and possibility for our young people that we need to begin to support them in developing.”

— Lois Phillip, Managing Director of Inspire NWT

What We Do

Small Economy Works focuses on creating opportunities for communities to build self-reliance. Using an asset-based approach we catalyze grassroots economic activity through education and training solutions that help communities thrive.

Since 2015, our flagship Inspire program has been delivered in remote Arctic communities in Canada through Inspire Nunavut and Inspire North West Territories. These initiatives are invigorating grassroots economies and promoting resilience among young people.

Fostering Resilience

Canada’s remote and rural communities face unique economic challenges and are underrepresented when it comes to participating in the innovation economy.

Addressing these challenges will require creative approaches, including revisiting assumptions of classic economic development.

We seek to empower and foster the natural ingenuity of youth in local communities to allow them to see their full potential.
