The Micro-Grants Program provides funding, mentorship, and an interactive learning platform to support youth in designing and leading community development initiatives.

Launching Summer 2025

Once a project idea is submitted and approved, participants engage with a gamified, task-based learning system. Each completed task unlocks part of their grant funding, connecting learning outcomes directly to project milestones.

Tasks focus on essential areas of project planning and execution, helping youth develop the knowledge and confidence to implement meaningful and impactful community-based initiatives.

The program launches in Summer 2025. To know more about the program or to be added to our mailing list, connect with us.

Skills and Support

As participants move through the program, they build valuable skills in:

  • Financial literacy and budgeting

  • Grant writing

  • Project management

  • Marketing and outreach

  • Design thinking

Throughout the process, the SEW team offers personalized support to both youth and any involved mentors or staff. This includes regular check-ins, tailored feedback, and access to additional resources. The program also encourages peer connection and collaboration across regions, fostering innovation and shared learning.

About the Program and Grant

The Micro-Grants Program is open to youth aged 15–30 (including students, teachers and community members) who are ready to lead a community-impact project. Grants of $1,000, $2,500, or $5,000 are available for youth-led initiatives. Teams led by a designated youth representative are also welcome to join the program.

Funding can cover materials, event refreshments, and honorariums for Elders or facilitators. It cannot be used for wages, fundraising, direct financial assistance, or any activities related to partisan politics.

Initiate Youth Innovation: Micro-grants for rural, remote and northern youth is funded in part by Canada Service Corps, a national movement that empowers youth aged 12–30 to gain experience and build important skills while giving back to their community. Learn more at Canada.ca/CanadaServiceCorps.
