Small Economy Works builds programs rooted in place, culture, and connection. From entrepreneurial training to hands-on funding support, our initiatives help youth and community leaders imagine and create new possibilities.

These programs are made possible through strong partnerships with local organizations, funders, and collaborators who share our commitment to long-term, community-led change.

Inspire is our flagship program that supports youth in developing leadership and entrepreneurship skills grounded in local culture and values. Over 12 weeks, participants build confidence, strengthen practical skills, and explore pathways to employment or self-employment.

Since 2015, Inspire has reached over 300 participants across Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and Yukon, offering flexible, community-based training in more than 70 remote communities.

The Initiate program supports youth to grow their ideas, strengthen career skills, and lead community-based projects. Participants choose their own pathway, whether that’s exploring entrepreneurship, preparing for employment, or designing local initiatives.

With self-paced learning, mentorship, and support from peers and northern partners, Initiate creates space for practical, culturally grounded learning that reflects the realities of life in northern communities.

Youth Micro-Grants Program

The Youth Micro Grants program supports young people aged 15 to 30 to lead community-impact projects across the North. With flexible funding of $1,000 to $5,000, personalized mentorship, and a gamified learning platform, participants gain hands-on experience in project planning, budgeting, outreach, and more.

Launching in Summer 2025, the program is designed to build skills, foster connection, and bring local ideas to life.
